TAMA CD Funds mismatch and missing details about CDs
Please take a moment and understand the financial discrepancies in TAMA 2010 and 2011.
We, the life members of TAMA, who care about well being of TAMA are very concerned about the handling of finances for the past one year. There will be a board meeting of TAMA on 1/7/2012 to discuss the same irregularities. And, we want to make the attendees understand the gravity of the situation and prepare them with some pointed questions that they should direct at the TAMA EC and board. This is important because the board answers will determine the health of TAMA, which is paramount for the Telugu community of Atlanta. We don’t have faith in the board and EC to come forward and discuss the issues candidly. And, that’s why you need to ask the following questions.
1. What was the amount in CDs that was passed on to 2009 EC by 2008 EC? (Answer should be $126,968.69)
2. What was the amount in CDs that was passed on to 2010 EC by 2009 EC? (Answer should be $160,270.97)
3. What was the amount in CDs that was passed on to 2011 EC by 2010 EC? (Answer should be $169,405.97)
Follow up question should be: What happened to life membership fees of $9135, that should actually been put in CD?
4. As per the TAMA financial statement of 2011, the income was shown as $236,446.00 and expenses as $201938.60, resulting in a profit of $34,508.40, which should have been added to the then existing CDs worth of $169,405.97. Simple math says the value of the CDs must be $203,913.97. Now the question should be what was the amount in CDs that was passed on to 2012 EC by 2011 EC? (Answer should be $203,913.97).
5. If the CDs were broken for any reason, was it approved by the GBM as required by the by-laws?
6. How could the audit committee declare the 2010 financial statement to be correct, if the numbers don’t match with the above answers?
7. How could Madhu Tata, President of 2010 EC and Board Director of 2011 engage his restaurant business with TAMA, a non-profitable organization? Is it not a conflict of interest and ethics?
The following is the CD information gathered from 2009 EC. Where is the transparency promised by the 2010 EC before they got elected if they would not even provide complete information of CDs?

As a life member it is our right to know the details of these mismatching amounts. We should not accept any masked information from the EC 2010 and 2011. We should demand a financial statement from the bank with CD account numbers. It is those ECs responsibility to provide that information to every TAMA member.
Let us object these kinds of manipulations by some individuals who controls the organization for their own benefit. Let us boycott attending any TAMA functions or donations to TAMA until we get a clear answer from both the ECs of 2010 and 2011.

Impeach Madhu and recover the missing amount from him. He needs to be punished so that nobody in future will dare to take things into their hands. Also its one way forcing future EC to follow Bylaws. Otherwise what is the meanin of having Bylaws to an oraganization.
Yes, I agree with the other comment. Madhu should be impeached, cancel his membership and should not name him as Past TAMA president in any instance. This is the best punishment for anybody who cheated the organizatin and used it to boost up their self image. It will also be a fitting lesson to future presidents who has these kind of intensions.

TAMA accounts meeting held on 1/7/2012
The accounts committee meeting held on Saturday 1/7/2012 and the following are the outcome of the meeting.
1. Aluwal Reddy 2010 Treasurer brought the statement of Jan 4th 2010
2. The numbers matched between the statements of 2009 EC and Aluwal Reddy
3. As per the Lavu Srinivas statement: President Madhu all along was blaming the previous committee and never disclosed the truth.
4. Now that the truth is out Mr. Madhu promised that he will give back that money.
5. Mr. Madhu said in the meeting that he will pay $30,000 once and then changed to $13,000, which is true and why he made that statement?
We the TAMA life members want the truth and reality and inform to all the Telugu community as it is public money.
a. How can he break the CD’s, without the knowledge of the then EC and GBM, which is a serious offence. As per the TV9 source, all the CD’s were broken and kept in Savings account. This way Madhu can use for personal purposes. The truth will come out when we look into the Savings account with drawls and deposits.
b. Now it makes sense why Sunil K, acting treasurer was made President 2011 keeping aside all senior members and Anand Akkineni. Looks like Sunil may be a scape goat or done with his collaboration.
c. Looks like Madhu used the public money for his personal use, which is another biggest offence, needs explanation and punishment.
d. How come the current EC and Board remove the Financial and audit statements from the website tama.org, until we get the real picture? We need an explanation for this.
All we are asking the current EC and Board is to publish the bank records of CD’s from January 2010 month by month. Once you publish the statement, that will tell us any discrepancy thereof or clear the doubts of the general body.

Why did TAMA EC and BOARD removed the financial link. First prove the reality of the accounts in CD's and then update by sending the CD numbers and amount to all the TAMA members. Is it called transparency? Probably Sunil and Suresh also involved in this scam.
Chand, please take this issue to the court if necessary or to IRS or state Govt. We want Sita Valluripalli in action on this issue. Hats off to Lavu for coming out openly and asking Madhu all kinds of questions.
All the teams of TAMA 2010 and 2011 are big theives. It is a 100% known fact that Madhu used TAMA CDs for his own use. Also all of them knows waht Madhu is doing. They are silent when he is a president. Then started this when things are not well between those. So the whole EC and Borad menbers of 2010 and 2011 are responsible for this. Also there is an audit committee headed by Sheela Lingam. God knows how audit committee audited the accounts and gave an approval. This will raise eyebrows. Heared Madhu TATA agreed of funds misuse and he wants to deposit them back because he is finally caught.
We have to appreciate TSA and Gireesh for publishing TAMA 2009 accouts with account numbers and balances. Some how Madhu blind folded all the people and use TAMA email broadcast to sling mud on them.
Thank you Gireesh for bringing out the truth. Please can some body take charge and send Madhu to jail. We wanted to see him in jail for atleast a day.

Madanna, When you are breaking CD's and depositing that money into regular account, did you ever think of bylaws or just want to draw that money and use it personally. Sad state of affairs. Sheela Lingam did a huge mistake knowingly or unknowingly by submitting the Audit report.
The only way any one would get an update is, if TAMA ever decides to communicate with it's members.
I hope they do it sooner than later.

We believe that this information will help TAMA 2011 & 2012 leadership to get an idea about 2010 financials.
No committee in the past handed over detailed financial transactional data to any other committees. While we have all the data for 2010, receipts, details of checks made out to people,
we will provide that data to whoever, provided we go back in chronological order and gather all data for every year in TAMA's history.

The finance sub-committee was unanimouly appointed by the Board to find out how the CD money was moved into regular bank accounts and assess the actual losses incurred in 2010 and 2011. We request you to forward the relevant documentation - bank statements, credit card statement, bills, checks and financial statements to this committee for review.
2010 EC failed to report accurate information to the members and officers of TAMA on multiple occasions:
Audit committee was given wrong CD information totaling to $99,000, whereas you were aware that the amounts were over $160,000 (per Aluwal’s data)
Wrong information was provided to IRS showing $7000+ profit for 2010
GBM was misled that there were only $99,000 in CDS; there was a loss of $943 for 2010;
For the first time, on January 2nd, 2012, Sunil Katepalli revealed that there was a deficit of $13,000 in CD money which was used for operations in 2010 and/or 2011
On January 7, 2012, we were told that there will be a loss of $9,000 for 2010
On January 21, you informed us that there will be a loss of $13,000 for 2010. We have enquired about not including directory costs which may further increase the loss.
What should we believe? How do we certify your numbers without physical verification? We don’t want to distribute another set of wrong numbers.
We are giving you time until 7.00 p.m. on Friday, January 27th to handover the documention.
Your refusal to handover the requested information will leave the Board with two options - sending a legal notice and/or calling for a GBM to discuss the matter.
I hope you appreciate Board's fiduciary responsibility and work with it to resolve the matters in an amicable manner.Our intention is to protect the credibility and financial interests of TAMA rather than blaming/harassing past officers.

How come we have so many variations of details on 2010 transactions? We went through similar issues of lack of transparancy during the transition of teams few times in the past. The treasurers and presidents of respective years were held responsible in ensuring that TAMA was compliance with IRS and kept its non-profit status. Can you please ensure that every thing is handled in transparant way? We should not have touched the permanent fund, and we are supposed to run annual events with regular fund raising activities and membership drives.With the growing Telugu population in Atlanta, we should get more new members into TAMA every year. Even if TAMA was making loss during specific year, it was supposed to have been brought into the public notice through GBM. Please note that every committee contributed to the fund for its growth over the years and every EC used TAMA funds very very carefully.
I would suggest to use a certified CPA and ensure that every entry is acurate.
Your committee worked hard like many other committee to serve TAMA members in 2010. You personally donated hundreds of dollars of food from Swapna restaurany several times generously to TAMA. We really appreciated it. Please do the needful.

We received below two emails from one of the director of current board. But he didn't mentioned that they reviewed any provided information against bank statements or on line transactions. We, TAMA 2010 EC feels that all the allegation which are pointed in below emails are wrong and baseless.
The first finance sub-committee was formed on On Jan 2, 2012 in a joint meeting of EC and Board but it was changed by board on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 with out informing current EC. We are not sure what went wrong with first finance sub-committee??. Mrs.Seetha Valluripalli(Board chair person) mentioned in her email that Mr. Venkat Mondeddu, Sunil Shavile & Rajesh Jampla as observers but finance sub-committee chair mentioned that they are the members of Sub-Committee. We are not sure either chairperson email is right or Finance sub committee chair email is right? How come Mr. Chand seeking an opinion from so called observers before sending an email to 2010 EC. He have every right to ask opinion from his team (Board & EC) members but not from observers. 2010 EC strongly believing that current Finance sub-committee and their observers are trying hard to blame TAMA 2010EC instead of resolving this issue.
In the interest of TAMA we are not ready to sit or discuss with current finance sub-committee or their observers, who are working with their personal agendas. Also this self interested group proposed two solutions to fix this issue.
1. Legal Proceedings.
2. GBM
We believe that current leadership have right to choose which option is good to resolve this issue in the interest of organization. But as a responsible life members of TAMA we would like to go to our current TAMA members through GBM.
Here is our proposal to resolve this issue in amicable manner and form a guide lines for future TAMA financial issues.
1. 2010 President and Treasurer would like to work with current Board Chairperson, Secretary and EC president, Secretary to finalize TAMA 2010 financial issues. We would like to invite one of the past president as observer.
2. if above team come to a conclusion on the issue, then we will have a joint meeting of TAMA 2012 EC, 2012 Board, 2011 EC, 2011 Board and 2010 EC. We will have a chance to give clarification to any of these officers.
3. Then 2010 EC would like to go to GBM to give clarification on 2010 financials and Current leadership can get approval for future TAMA financial guidelines.
If this solution is not fit for current leadership then you can go with your decision (what ever decision you guys make). TAMA 2010 EC IS READY TO FACE AS A TEAM.
Now onwards TAMA 2010 EC is not going to respond to any email communications on this issue other than current president and Chairperson.

To put the record straight,
1. We have received a pdf file from Madhu on 1/21/12 giving a summary of financials ( we have asked whether directory printing cost was added or not; we are yet to receive a reply)
2. We received a zip file from Sunil Katepalli on 1/11/12 including bank statements (I have removed the attachment, it has only bank statements)
3. I have included an email from Vijay Kothapalli dated 2/5/11, wherein CD information was given at my request (this answers Mahesh’s query why I didn’t raise the question in 2011); Note that CD amounts seem to be over $170,000;
What is needed and Why?
Madhu’s report is based on the data compiled by EC2010 team, which was changed 6 times;
It was not verified and we need copies of the receipts and checks(payments) for verification. Otherwise, we can’t determine the actual loss for 2010. We are not comfortable to accept EC2010 information without documentary evidence. We don’t want to mislead TAMA members once again.
Is it unfair to targeting only 2010 team ? - No, Significant loss, inconsistent information, existence of Board for financial oversight are the reasons for this effort.
We request the EC2010 to handover copies of the receipts and checks to any of the current officers who were not part of 2010 or 2011 teams or any one of the past presidents. They can forward them to the Board and the committee.
We will wait until 7.00 p.m. tomorrow and then send our comments/recommendation to the full board for implementation.

Why are fighting amongst ourselves instead of actually focusing on the matter in hand which is a grave financial situation for TAMA. Whether we are in the subcommitee or not, can we not agree on the fact that TAMA lost a bunch of money which has never happened in its history. As of today nobody is clear as to what the exact expense incurred for 2010. As far as I know,
there are four numbers(around 51k in March 2011, around 50k in tax filing, around 55k in the audit report and in the meeting on Jan 7th 2012 and finally 64k from the Jan21 2012 report) that were presented until now. I have never seen expenses incurred in the past accumulating as the year progresses. That is a 28% fluctuation from the low to the high. I can understand if it is income. Anyways can anyone explain this issue. In case of income also each statement that was presented came with different numbers
Based on this scenario, since it is being said that I am not supposed to give input, could anyone of you who thinks or feels responsible ask the following questions to the all the parties concerned?
· When was any member of EC made aware of the fact that TAMA was running with a loss?
· When was the board made aware of the fact that TAMA was running with a loss?
· When was the general TAMA membership made aware of the fact that TAMA was running with a loss?
· If any of the above, are there any meeting minutes at which this was discussed? and
§ did this information go out in a news letter?
· There was supposed be around $3017 dues to Madhu and Mahesh from 2010. Is this amount included int
the expenses?.If not then our loss would be more
· What about the printing costs?
· Why did we have to pay more than $18K of 2010 expenses in 2011 and what were these expenses for?
· Why was the tax filing done in Aug/Sep 2011 showing a profit?
· Did the audit committee know the extent of the loss and when?
· If the board had not appointed a subcommittee to look into this information, at what time was the EC planning to disclose this information?
· What has any member of EC or Board done to look into this issue, since the question was posed in the Dec 3 2011 GBM?
· Why did the Sankranti 2010 expenses increase from $4735 to $7017?
· Why did Super Singer Musical Concert expenses increase from $8729 to $13586?
· Why did Palleku Podam expenses increase from $13042 to $14229?
· Why did the Deepavali and Annual day expenses increase from $5087 to $9495?
· Based on the information that you were already negative for 2010 by the time the annual day happened, did anyone think it was prudent to keep an eye on the expenses and try to minimize the costs, instead of showing off opulence and extravagance by doing it at Rialto center? Did we not find any other location that would be appropriate for the event?
· Coming to the money supposed to be in "CD"s. This money whether it is in a CD or money market account, did you not know that you are not supposed to be touching that money? If at all it was discussed and decision made to use it, where are the minutes for it?

What happened to the $9135 of life membership money that was supposed to go into the "CD" account?
· Why was the authorize.net account mixed up with Rudraraju account? If we had been keeping the Penchala account untouched, why didn't we follow the same procedure for this one?
· Why did the "CD"s that matured in Oct 2010 and Dec 2010 (around 64K) go into the regular operating account?
· Why was community led into believing that 2009 EC only gave around $3k of operating expenses and that around $32K was put into a "CD", when the fact is that there was a savings account with around $55k of "CD" money at your disposal?
If anyone could get answers to these questions(Mahesh you are free to use any appropriate methods you deem possible), I would be happy to be just an observer. If you think by asking these questions, I have an agenda, I am sorry you feel that way. Also please note that when I am referring to the term "you", I am not targeting a specific person but the collective group. I believe that it is the responsibility of each and every TAMA member to have clarity on the questions I have raised.

There are very knowledge people like Girish and Satyam who know in and pout about the CD amounts even with the amounts and maturity dates. You can request them and they will be helpful in giving you required information.

Also they are the first people in the history of TAMA to put the accounts public for 4 times. Nobody had question with the finances.

I demand written statements from each member of the TAMA EC, Board & Sub-Committee on the investigation.

Treasurer:
The Treasurer and President shall be the only authorized persons to sign the checks individually up to $500. Any check exceeding $500 shall require the signatures of both Treasurer and President. He/she shall be responsible for issuing notice and collection of all dues and deposit the same in such banks or trusts as the Executive Committee may designate. He/she shall operate all accounts as per Article IX. He/she shall have custody of all accounts, receipts, and disbursements. He/she shall submit quarterly financial reports to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. He/she should ensure that this information is posted on the TAMA website within 45 days of the end of the financial quarter. He/she shall perform such other duties and exercise such other powers incident to the office of Treasurer by law.
He/she must ensure that the tax returns are filed with the Internal Revenue Service for the year in office and provide appropriate (Page 6 of 12) records for financial audits to the Board of Directors. He/she shall transfer all records, documents, and accounts to the incoming Treasurer within five days (by January 5) after the end of his/her term.
Until today, Board of 2011 or 2012 didn’t receive full documentation from 2010 team.
2012 team, not 2010 team, will be reviewing the documents. 2010EC team will show the documents and hand over them to the 2012 team. Otherwise, we will be wasting time.
Any member of TAMA can ask us to show documentary evidence supporting the Tax filing made in September showing $7000 profit. EC2010 didn’t authorize you - not to release documents, file wrong taxes, present wrong information to audit committee and GBM ….Where is the sanctity for your question asking for decision info? During the private party on Saturday and Dance program on Sunday, many life members of TAMA have expressed concern about the losses, breaking of CD and withholding documents.
I request the EC2010 to standup to the bylaw requirements and release them without any arguments and conditions. Otherwise, you will be doing a great injustice to TAMA.
